Green Smoothie 30 Day Challenge

I am on day 7 of a 30 day “Green Smoothie Challenge.” I should be on day eight, but I missed April 1st due to the fact that I didn’t get my shopping done and did not have a blender that functioned well.  However, I plan to extend the challenge to May 1st to make up the day, because a 29 day challenge doesn’t sound as good.

If you want to see what it is all about or even join in late, you can check out Simple Green Smoothies on Insatgram or their website.  It is free to join in with the challenge, and they send you recipe and shopping list emails on Thursdays for the next week.
I have to say that I am enjoying them and there have been a few surprises along the way. If you have an aversion to banana, you would need to modify most of the recipes, but I haven’t found one I really disliked, yet.  I have tried juices made with kale and fruit and felt like the fruit couldn’t hide the grassy taste, but that isn’t true with these smoothies.  The spinach or kale obviously makes the green color, but other than some leaf particles that can’t be completely blended, I don’t notice the greens.  The fruit shines through.
A big surprise has been my energy level.  I am making them in the morning and the thing that has worked the best for me is to drink them on my drive to work.  However, on Wednesday, I was rushing to get out the door with Reid to get him to preschool, and I forgot my smoothie.  When I got to work, I was in the kitchen getting my coffee, and I thought, “Man I am tired, I just don’t feel like I have any energy.”  Then I realized I had left my smoothie in the fridge.  When I took Reid home, I got it, and the afternoon went a lot better.  It is amazing to me that I noticed that difference on day five.
I made a collage of pictures from my first 6 days. I forgot to take a picture this morning. So here is one of my empty cup.

Seriously, if you are at all interested in giving it a try go check them out: Instagram, website, facebook.  Oh and the ladies who run the site put out a book back in November.

I’ll give an update at the end of the 30 days to let you know how it went.
